Women Empowerment through Skill Training
The Women Empowerment through Skill Training program by Abebech Gobena Charity is a crucial initiative aimed at improving the lives of disadvantaged women. By offering various skill-building opportunities, the program seeks to empower women, helping them uplift their families and communities.
A significant component of this initiative is the Food Preparation and Catering Training Center, established in July 2002. The center focuses on helping vulnerable women such street girls, victims of sexual violence, and abused women returning from Arab countries. This skill training gives these women a means to improve their economic situation, fostering their independence and contributing to societal well-being.
Practical Session of modern and traditional food preparation
The center offers different training courses for six months for trainees. The courses include modern food preparation, cultural food preparation, catering, children care and housekeeping in theoretical and practical sessions. It also includes other supportive courses such as family planning, reproductive health, hygiene, environmental and sanitation, life skill and basic business plan, and fire hazard prevention and control.
To date, more than 4500 young women were graduated in 38 consecutive rounds form the center.
Many of the previous graduates have been employed in government and private institutions, hotels, and at household level with better salary.
